EMDR & OCD Therapy for Young Adults in Washington,DC
Meet Anna D’Avanzo
I am a licensed clinical social worker and psychotherapist with over 10 years of experience helping young adults navigate life’s challenges. My approach to therapy is down-to-earth and collaborative — I want our sessions to feel less like a clinical appointment and more like a space where you can be fully yourself, without judgment. I love this work, and I bring that into how I practice: alongside EMDR, I draw on somatic and polyvagal theory approaches to help clients work through trauma, relationship stress, and anxiety — paying close attention not just to what you're thinking, but to what your body and nervous system are telling you. A portion of my practice is also dedicated to working with OCD, using I-CBT (Inference-Based Cognitive Behavioral Therapy).
Whatever brings you to therapy, my goal is to walk alongside you with warmth, honesty, and genuine care — helping you build a life that feels more like your own.

OCD Therapy
Intrusive thoughts and compulsive checking can feel unshakeable — not from a lack of effort, but a mismatch between the problem and the approach. I use Inference-Based Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (I-CBT), an evidence-based treatment for OCD.
EMDR Therapy
EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing) is an evidence-based approach for processing trauma and distressing experiences. Rather than repeated verbal recounting, it works with the brain's own capacity to reprocess memories — reducing their distress and intrusiveness over time.

Anxiety & Life Transitions
Anxiety often intensifies during periods of change — a new school, a new job, a shift in identity or relationships. I work with individuals navigating this kind of transition, with particular experience supporting college students and young adults.
